you must ensure that you’re covered for
bad yeast and microbial infestations! All
it takes are a few sneak microbes to sneak
through the cleaning process to render
your brew undrinkable.
Supply Chain Interruption
Supply chain interruption can happen to
any manufacturing business, but what
if your supply chain has uncontrollable
factors, such as weather-related crop failures.
When this happens, you can struggle
to find a new supplier, especially if
you’re using special varietal of grapes or
unique hops.
Certain insurance providers can provide
actual value to you in the event of this
type of loss by valuing the supply up front.
For example, if you were to produce wine
with a rare grape and that wine would sell
for $50 per bottle, those grapes would be
worth more to you than another varietal
that would only sell for $40 per bottle. By
deciding on this value up front, you can
save the headache of accounts and lawyers
fighting for years over a claim.
Spoilage
Again, alcohol manufacturing is a science,
and sometimes science experiments go
wrong. Whether it’s a small change in
temperature in your facility or something
is just off, spoilage coverage typically only
covers the value of the product at whatever
stage it is currently at. When shopping
for coverage, ensure that you are
getting coverage for retail value if your
product goes south during production.
Work with your broker to decide what the
finished product is worth to you. That way,
if something happens along the way you
can ensure you’ll keep your profit, even if
you can’t sell the product.
