Monte Creek
Ranch Winery
Pioneering a new
trail in emerging
Thompson Valley
Situated in the newly recognized appellation
of the Thompson Valley in British Columbia,
Monte Creek Ranch Winery is leading the
province’s next frontier in winemaking. With a total
of five vineyards in the area, Thompson Valley was
officially recognized by B.C.’s Ministry of Agriculture
in October 2018, following recommendations by an
expert panel.
Established in 2009, Monte Creek Ranch Winery
is located right off Hwy. 1, just 30 minutes from
Kamloops. With a rich history of farmers and ranchers
on the land, the winery has excelled in creating
a destination for wine lovers, outdoor enthusiasts
and locavores alike. Having opened a tasting room
in 2015, the winery also offers stunning views, educational
wine tastings, an artisanal inspired gift shop
and has its sights set on contributing to the area’s
music and cultural scene by developing an open-air
amphitheatre to host live theatre and music concerts
during the summer months.
With 75 acres of planted vineyards, the majority
of its vineyard plantings are Riesling, Chardonnay
and Pinot Noir, across both its vineyards, one to the
north of the South Thompson River, and the other
to the south. In keeping with Monte Creek’s history
as a ranch and farm, the property is home to a
herd of grass-fed Black Angus beef cattle, goats, pigs
as well as to several beehives. Haskap berries are
also cultivated on 2.8 acres on site. Creating a real
destination for food and wine lovers, visitors can
enjoy Monte Creek Ranch’s delicious wine and locally
inspired menu pairings on its seasonal Terrace
restaurant, outstanding views, and learning about
the ranch’s animal and plant diversity while on its
guided tour. n
