As such, CVA continues to act on
behalf of the entire Canadian wine indus-try
to allow for DTC across Canada. Our
continuing efforts include collaborations
with like-minded organizations, such as the
Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the
Montreal Economic Institute, with whom
we have written separate op-eds, published
nationally, on the need for DTC. We are also
working with One Country, One Market,
founded by the Atlantic Institute for Market
Studies, the Canadian Constitutional
Foundation and the Montreal Economic
Institute. CVA spoke at their national con-ference
in November 2018, and uses their
website, onecountryonemarket.ca, to share
information on DTC with the wider public.
CVA is making steady progress, and
our message is resonating within the feder-al
government including with the appoint-ment
of Dominic LeBlanc as Minister of
Intergovernmental Affairs, Northern Affairs
and Internal Trade. CVA has worked with
a range of government departments,
as well as in the Senate. The Standing
Senate Committee on Banking, Trade
and Commerce released a report entitled
Canada: Still Open for Business? in October
2018, highlighting the need to eliminate
internal trade barriers. CVA will continue
to advocate strongly for DTC on behalf of
industry in the coming months as we await
specifics on enhanced interprovincial trade
of beverage alcohol from premiers. n
